Beauvoir Announces New CFOO

Washington, D.C.—Thomas Swindell has accepted the position of Chief Finance and Operations Officer (CFOO) at Beauvoir, the National Cathedral Elementary School effective July 1, 2024. Mr. Swindell was former Executive Vice President for Finance and Operations at After-School All-Stars, a national non-profit organization bridging the opportunity gap through a wide range of enrichment activities for low-income youth and their families.

Throughout his career, Mr. Swindell has advanced short- and long-term strategic priorities, produced favorable annual budget results and cost management measures aligned with organizational mission, and optimized business operations for faith-based, non-profit organizations, including the Friends Committee on National Legislation (FCNL), Lutheran Social Services (LSS) of the National Capital Area, and The Riverside Church (TRC) of New York City.

Mr. Swindell’s comprehensive experience includes reconciling, analyzing, and reporting annual activity of multimillion-dollar investment portfolios to governing bodies, boards of directors, and investment and finance committees, as well as external auditors; serving as a senior auditor focused on critical internal controls; executing program-related grant agreements; and overseeing risk management policies and procedures, insurance and licenses, space management, and security.

His former positions prove Mr. Swindell adept at leading teams and direct reports ranging from finance, accounting, facilities, and office management to information technology and human resources. In addition, he has supported programmatic and auxiliary entities, including independent, private daycare and youth sports programs. His enhanced event-based cost reporting and use of the latest financial accounting and fundraising software systems have led to organization-wide savings.

A skilled professional with core system competencies, Mr. Swindell received an MSA in accounting and finance from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He earned a B.A. in accounting and Spanish from Guilford College where he was on the Dean’s List, an Academic All-American, and Captain of the Men’s Varsity Basketball Team. During his college years, he spent his Junior Year Abroad at the University of Seville in Spain completing the Spanish degree requirements. In Seville, he also played for the local semi-pro basketball team and is fluent in Spanish.

Volunteer activities complement Mr. Swindell’s professional life. He volunteered with the LSS Foster Parent Recruitment Program and refugee resettlement events, and supported the TRC semi-annual clothing drives, food pantries, and prison ministry. His service extends to local D.C. communities, including art mural projects and coaching boys (ages 10-17) basketball teams (AAU and D.C. Department of Parks and Recreation Centers). A native of North Carolina, Mr. Swindell is a long-time resident of Washington, D.C. and enjoys spending his free time with his wife and two children.

Head of School Cindi Gibbs-Wilborn adds, “I trust that Mr. Swindell will serve as an invaluable asset to Beauvoir. He is ‘a forward-thinking, honest, and transformational CFOO’ by all accounts with the unique ability to explain and support complex financial strategies, trends, projects, and controls. I extend a warm welcome to Mr. Swindell and his family.”
